How Product innovation is driving the Global Feminine Hygiene Market?

The global feminine hygiene industry is crowded with several brands, and the market is dominated by sanitary pads and tampons. Sanitary pads held the highest market share (55.1%) in 2018, owing to strong consumer awareness about the harmful effects of using unhygienic products during menstruation. Sanitary pads are the most common sanitary protection product across all the geographies and are available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and absorption levels. In countries like India, China, Kenya, Australia, Ireland, Canada and New Zealand, sanitary pads are preferred over other menstrual hygiene products.

In the developed markets, however, tampons rule the roost with a market share of almost 60% as against sanitary pads. Currently, women across the world have access to new and innovative products in the global feminine hygiene market. Leading players are focusing on expanding to the 88% of the population who are currently not using any sanitary care products. The market players are also emphasising on product innovation for catering to the 12% population who are using the same old methods of sanitary care for years.

To drive product innovation, several start-ups as well as established players are bringing top quality products such as digital viscous tampons, panty liners and intimate hygiene washes in the market at competitive price points so that people across geographies and of varied demographics can conveniently afford them. Further, to reduce the pain during periods, industry players are coming up with innovative pain relief solutions, such as herbal pain-relief patches, which are gaining significant popularity across the world. With newer innovations revolutionizing the market, the feminine hygiene space is seeing interest from several leading VCs and investors. Moreover, with rapid urbanization, increasing disposable incomes and the growing number of working women, a greater focus is on providing affordable and accessible feminine hygiene products across demographics. Start-ups as well as established players are working toward new innovations while spreading awareness about feminine hygiene. Innovation and its acceptance, therefore, will be the predominant trend in the feminine hygiene space in the coming years.
